In May of 2007, six students from University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill traveled throughout the Balkans region to explore the development and role of youth. North Carolina SOW worked with the umbrella organization Balkan Children and Youth Foundation (BCYF) and its involvement with projects in Albania, Macedonia and Bulgaria. These projects include supporting the Mjaft! Organization in Albania, a group dedicated to proactive youth as they engage in entrepreneurial ventures and movements for political change. Mjaft! and other similar BCYF projects work to support youth-led political and business development in many of the recovering, post-communist states in the Balkans. Apart from exhibiting work through the CGI summit, North Carolina SOW intends to work on a short film and a photography portfolio to enter at competitions at UNC and in surrounding communities.
