Tabasco

TrailerCarolina SOW traveled to Mexico to explore the use of microcredit programs as a form of poverty alleviation. SOW members worked with the Van Mujeres program to engage with the enterprising women who have been using  microcredits to improve their lives, their families and their communities. SOW members traveled throughout the state of Tabasco to attend meetings of women’s savings groups as well as visit women in their homes to see their projects and understand their roles in their communities. In October 2006, the SOW team will exhibit their photography, writing and video at “InSight: a Student Documentary Festival” at Duke’s Center for Documentary Studies. In addition to the work shown at the CGI summit, the SOW team will be working with other organizations to plan advocacy events on campus and in local North Carolina public schools to bring attention to microcredit as a valid solution to the dire effects of poverty.
